The share markets are pretty volatile at the moment. Lot’s of ups and downs, “massive” losses one day and “massive” gains on another. (Surprise, surprise that the media only likes to report the losses though!)
Let’s use the Australian ASX 200 as an example
What a ride the Australian market as a whole has had in the last little while.
Given such volatility it almost seems illogical that an investor would try to pick the best time to invest. Nonetheless there is ample evidence that people are choosing to try to pick the “best” time to get in to the market at the moment:
The truth is that no one can continually accurately predict what share prices will do in the short term. If they could then there probably wouldn’t be a market.
Take the long term approach and save yourself the stress and headache of timing it incorrectly. It’s “time in the market”, not “timing the market” that pays off.
ASX 200 performance, not including dividends, over the past 20 years – 80%
