Life is all about trying to achieve some sort of balance. Work/life balance, family/friends balance, balanced diet, balancing our budgets, or just balancing our time between ourselves and others. It is a tricky process which requires constant monitoring, reviewing, and rebalancing, even though most of the time we don’t realise we are doing it. When it comes to balancing our current needs with our future requirements, we tend to ‘set and forget’ at times, failing to check if we have created our own personal balance.
Our current needs are constantly changing as our life circumstance changes; kids, travel, new cars, cost of living, or ‘living for the present’ all drain our current cashflow and change our immediate financial needs. This in turn creates an imbalance if we do not adjust our fulcrum toward where our cashflow is needed most.
By moving our fulcrum, or cashflow, toward our current needs, we can recreate a balance of fulfilling our current wants, desires or needs, while still providing for our future self. This fulcrum position changes throughout our life and is different for everyone; your fulcrum position is unique to you.
What we must be mindful of, however, is that a scale needs a counterweight to maintain an even keel. We can move our fulcrum as close to our needs as possible, but if we don’t have something on the opposite end, we can never create a balance between our present and our future. If you are having trouble achieving the right balance for you, give the team at Steve May a call and start the conversation today.
