Last week I was lucky enough to secure a seat to see investor and educator Peter Thornhill present to a class of 25. Peter has a remarkable way of breaking down and making the most complex investment concepts interesting and engaging.

Peter has a passion for investing into Australian stocks. Although an advocate of investing, Peter is critical of the high costs, complexities, greed and inefficiencies that exist within the Financial services Industry. Peter has worked with some of the biggest names in the Australian Financial Services landscape but exited the industry following his passion into financial education. Peter is critical of the media and the downright lies that end up being verbal spew in the morning papers or evening news.

As a Financial Planner myself, it was a great occasion to spend the day with Peter and 25 other passionate followers and investors. Peter’s message has allowed me to better align my thoughts around investing and the broader impacts of money on almost every aspect of our lives. The message is simple, spend less than you earn, borrow less than you can afford and make money your slave, not the other way around.

If you don’t have the opportunity to see Peter present, he has conveniently wrapped up what I think is some of his best work into a book, ‘Motivated Money.’ This is probably my favourite book. It is easy to read and the message is powerful.

I would encourage anyone serious about their financial future to consider reading this book. I always have a spare so if you need to borrow a copy you can come by the office to pick it up.
