Many people have experienced the “Bill Blues” over the course of their adult lives.
Many people have experienced the “Bill Blues” over the course of their adult lives.
The feeling of dread when receiving the electricity bill, the trepidation when the phone bill arrives or the anxiety when the rates notice turns up in the mail.
So how can those Blues be alleviated?
Budgeting, of course, is one piece of the puzzle. First of all you should compile a list of all the regular bills that have to be paid – think electricity, rent, loan payments, phone, gas, rates and the like. Then put a figure alongside the item which is the amount the bill usually amounts to – for instance if your quarterly electricity bill averages $480 then that’s the number to write down.
From there you can easily work out how much you should be allowing per week for those bills. Electricity $480 a quarter? – divide by 12 for the weekly amount of $40. Rates $1,000 per year? – divide by 52 to get the weekly amount of $19, and so on.
From there you can organise the most powerful piece of the puzzle.
Most suppliers allow you to set up regular Bpay payments to your customer account. Obtain the BPay details from your last bill, get online to your internet banking and set up regular weekly Bpay payments for your bills.
Sure it will take up an hour or so of your time to do it, but the feeling of relief when you receive your Bills will be worth it – the amount to pay will be minimal, if anything, and you may even be in credit. Can you imagine actually welcoming receiving your Bills in the mail!
No more “Bill Blues”
